The Mapuche (Chile)

Our involvement alongside the Mapuche is the result of our meeting with Adolfo Malibur, the only Mapuche Mayor in Chile. Like most indigenous peoples in the Americas, the Mapuche (“people of the land”) were – and still are – marginalised and dispossessed of their lands. Their water-rich territories have attracted forestry and water multinationals that endanger the Mapuche’s environment.

Danielle Mitterrand went to Chile in February 2000 and in 2007 to promote our involvement and to make the Mapuche’s claims heard.
